Recycling

To comply with the State’s “Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act”, East Whiteland Township requires and encourages all homeowners and businesses to recycle. The recycling requirements are different for residents and businesses.

Residential Recycling

All residents of the Township are required to recycle, whether you live in a single family home or in a multi-family apartment complex.

For single-family homeowners, recyclable materials are to be placed in a separate, reusable, metal or plastic container that clearly identifies the contents as recyclable. This container shall be placed at the curb on the day of collection.
For residents of multi-family housing developments. Your landlord or association manager must make available to you suitable containers and easily accessible locations for the containers and a written description of the collection procedure.

All residents and residential property owners are required to separate leaf waste from regular trash for separate collection by your hauler. And all property owners are encouraged to compost leaf waste on their own properties.
Materials required to be recycled are:

  • Newsprint
  • Aluminum
  • Colorless glass

Other materials that are at the option of your hauler include:

  • Colored glass containers
  • Plastics
  • Metals

Commercial Recycling

All commercial, institutional and municipal establishments in East Whiteland Township are also required to recycle. In addition, your recyclable collection company must provide written documentation and certification to the Township by January 15 of the following year of the total number of tons of materials by types of material recycled by your facility.
