Eric Reed regarding height and placement restrictions.
Do I need a permit to construct a deck on my house? Yes a building permit is required.
Do I need a permit to reroof my house? Yes we require a building permit.
Do I need a permit to place/build a shed on my property? We require a building permit if the shed is going to be more than 150 sq. ft. (square footage is determined by multiplying length times width.)
Do I need a permit to replace the siding on my house? No, a permit is not required
Do I need a permit to finish my basement? Yes, permits are required based on the work to be done, i.e.: building permit, electrical permit, and plumbing permits may be required. It is also a requirement if you are doing any work to your basement to install an emergency egress (door or window) if you do not already have one in place.
Is a Use and Occupancy Certificate for the resale of a home required? Yes, you can find the Residential Use and Occupancy Application on this website. We will need to perform an interior inspection of your house prior to issuing the Certificate.
Is a Certificate of Occupancy required for commercial properties? Yes, we require a Certificate of Occupancy for the resale and release of commercial properties. The Application for Commercial Certificate of Occupancy is on our website.
Do I need a permit to replace the windows in my house? Yes, if you are replacing bedroom windows because they a means of emergency egress. If the current size window is not up to code and you are replacing it you will need to bring it up to code.
Can I cut down a tree on my property? Yes. Do I need a permit? No
Do I need a permit to repave my existing paved driveway? No, but you do need to contact the township if you decide to change the size of your driveway. If you are paving your driveway for the first time (over dirt/stone) then a Soil & Erosion Control Permit is required.
Can I burn trash, yard waste, debris etc. on my property? No, there is no burning permitted in East Whiteland Township. We do allow small fire pits/chimneas as long as they do not become a nuisance to your neighbors.
Do I need permits to install/construct a swimming pool? Yes, we require you first apply for a Soil & Erosion Control Permit and once that has been approved you can apply for Building and Electrical Permits. Prefabricated swimming pools that are less than 24 inches deep do not require any permits.
Do I need a permit for a new patio area? Yes, we require a building permit if you are installing a hardscaped patio.
Do I need a permit to replace/repair my sidewalk? No. If you are installing a side walk for the first time we do require a building permit.
Do I need a permit to construct retaining walls? No permit is required for retaining walls under 4 feet unless the wall supports a surcharge; then a building permit is required.
