Real Estate Tax

There are 3 real estate tax bills issued annually:
  1. County
  2. Township
  3. School District

Fiscal Years

  • The County and Township fiscal years follow the calendar year from January 1 to December 31. Bills are rendered on or about March 1.
  • The School District fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. Bills are rendered on or about July 1. Real estate tax is based on an assessed value determined by the Chester County Board of Assessments.
  • The County was reassessed effective January 1, 1998. Appeals for reassessment must be made directly to the County Board of Assessments in West Chester.

Tax Rates

Each entity of local government (County, Township, and School) sets its own tax rate. The current Township millage is 0.445. A 2% discount is offered for payment made within 60 days. A 10% penalty is levied after 120 days.


Transfer Tax

The Real Estate Transfer Tax Rate for East Whiteland Township is 1% of the total sale which is divided, 50% Township and 50% Great Valley School District.
